"As comfortable as an old shoe," I've heard it said.
Brown leather boots attached for half of a decade. Nicks, scratches and scrapes add to their charm, for me. Memories through this time of my life-- places I've been-- things I've accomplished-- logged on their steel toes and leather shelters. I remember throwing away my "comfortable" shoes on the road in Edinburgh, to a welcome exchange for these old boots. Blistered feet never felt so good. Hot, dry dirt; rain; snow; slow moving streams over slippery rocks... speaking the tongue of Mother Earth, I am connected.
Grateful.

I have one pair of shoes that I would always travel with so they know all of my secrets. They saw so much of the world, went place with me that no one else knew or cared about. They had seen 48 states and 4 countries. They became unwearable about a year ago and I have tried to replace them but no other shoe fits quite the same.
I dread the day my boots are unwearable. The thought makes me want to cry. Man, I hope you find some that can (somehow) take their place.
btw... I had a dream about you and Elliott last night. I can't remember now what it was... (I told Pappy about it-- I wonder if he remembers?).. but it seems as if you two were helping me organize something. *laughs really hard*
